Every section and division of SPE has the right to be represented on the National level by an elected Council Person.  This is important because nearly all important National Issues are discussed and voted on in National Council Meetings.  See Section 8 of the SPE Bylaws for details.

I have just been reelected by the Philadelphia Board for a second three year term.  This can be a rewarding and interesting activity, especially for one interested in actively participating in SPE.  The Council position is usually a springboard to National Office positions. The meetings are usually during the ANTEC and two other meetings.  The section pays expenses.  After each meeting, the Councilor presents a report to the Philadelphia Board and discusses issues of interest to the Board.  One of the most interesting aspects is the fact all Sections seem to have more or less the same problems and one can learn much about how to deal with our problems from these meetings.

In addition, each Section is a member of the Sections Committee, the most dynamic of the committess.  I should know, since I was Chairman of this Committee for two years.  It seems that every councilor has strong feelings and very determined to make them known.

There are always issues between members, Sections, Divisions and National.  I will have to say that in my experience for many years,. the relationship between the staff and members seems to me to be excellent.  Nevertheless, I would like to invite members to bring up issues and I will put your comments as well as my response on this website.  We don't have any comments yet, so send them in.  (Roger D. Corneliussen, Philadelphia Councilman, 5/14/2008)
